Tabless 21700 cells are a modern construction built to push current — lower internal resistance, less heat, and output that holds up when you lean on it.
The difference is in how the cell connects internally. Older cells route all their current through one small welded tab, a chokepoint that adds resistance and concentrates heat under heavy load. Tabless cells make contact across the entire electrode edge, which slashes internal resistance. For a builder, that means flatter voltage under load, cooler running, and stronger sustained output through the discharge.
Where tabless really earns its keep is high-current work — drones, e-mobility, high-output packs. The harder you push a cell, the more that lower resistance pays off. For gentle, runtime-focused builds the benefit is real but smaller.
Why builders choose them
Full-edge tabless connection, not a single welded tab
